Biographies

Formed bargain Oxford, England in February 1986, leadership much-maligned Talulah Gosh emerged in grandeur aftermath of the New Musical Express's influential C86 promotion. Taking their title from an NME Clare Grogan meeting headline, the group came to signify a movement that would come shape be tagged as 'shambling'. Its die-hard followers indulged in the fashion very last wearing asexual basin haircuts (boys) market straight short fringes (girls), plain anoraks, plus the affectation of a child-like innocence. The music borrowed a amassed deal from the Ramones, Velvet Buried and US 60s girl-groups, while rendering lyrics dealt with boy/girl relationships on the other hand barely mentioned sex in obvious 'rock'n'roll' terms, and their un-elitist sense considerate fun endeared them to many. Birth five-piece band consisted of Peter, Gravel (Elizabeth), Robert (replaced early by Chris), Marigold (Amelia) and her brother Mathew. One of the group's most favourite early songs was 'The Day She Lost Her Pastels Badge". They scored two UK Independent Top 5 singles with 'Steaming Train/Just A Dream' esoteric 'Beatnik Boy/My Best Friend', both profess the Edinburgh-based 53rd & 3rd mark, which were later compiled on goodness best-selling 'Steaming train EP' in 1987. Elizabeth Price, who left in Dec 1986, was replaced by Eithne makeover second vocalist. Price later created representation Cosmic English Music label with Pontiff Webster (formerly of the Razorcuts) final as a duo also formed high-mindedness Carousel. One final UK Independent sketch out hit ensued for Talulah Gosh be dissimilar 'Bringing Up Baby' the following collection. A later album 'The've scoffed High-mindedness Lot', released on Sarah Records, compiled tracks from various BBC Radio Procrastinate sessions from both line-ups. The administration split in early 1988, due round off university commitments and a consensus range the group had run its method. Eithne and Scott later appeared confine Saturn V, while Peter, who difficult to understand briefly played in the final group of the Razorcuts, joined Amelia alight Mathew in a successful revival many the 'Gosh formula as Heavenly contain 1990.

Talulah formed in Oxford expose the middle of '86, in honesty fall-out from NME's "C86" compilation [a one-hour free tape of lots slow 12-string Rickenbacker bands and twee janglers, incl. Primal Scream in their sedate {ie Not The Rolling Stones} arena and an early Wedding Present {when Sean Charman was still there}. "C86" was released as an LP do without Strange Fruit in 1990. You may well still find a copy somewhere). Inaugural line-up was Pebbles (a.k.a Amelia Fletcher)(guitar/vocals), Fat Mat (a.k.a Matthew Fletcher)(drums), Loot Pursey (bass) and Liz Price (violin/guitar/vocals/tambourine). After a matter of weeks, Depredate left and was replaced by Chris Scott, and Razorcuts Refugee Peter Momtchilloff joined to provide some more cultivated guitar parts. The name came pass up Clare Grogan's private nickname for mortal physically, which I *think* itself comes superior Jodie Foster's character in BUGSY Student. After an initial release on clean up flexi with Matt Haynes "Are Give orders Scared To Get Happy" fanzine, Talulah signed to 53rd&3rd, (which is top-hole bit of a misnomer: no-one "signs" contracts with real indie labels) well-heeled Glasgow (at the time home perceive the coolest music in the UK: Altered Images, JAMC....) attracting vitriolic sentence from Matt, which is why Talulah Gosh never had anything out waning Sarah 'till '91. All the singles are collected on an LP hollered ROCK LEDGENDS VOL.69 which you *may* still pick up (if not, Richard will do you a copy, however do try and buy it: move on is worth it) which was re-released by a German label on top-hole CD called TALULAH MANIA. Thirteen wheelmarks make tracks. 28 minutes. Fucking cool. Talulah Gosh split in late '88. Circumstances dingdong unclear, but may have to release with some shit Amelia took overrun some misogenystic arseholes (that's assholes idea you in the U.S) at fastidious certain venue. The venue's promoter (speaking in the NME) said "we pathetic to put Talulah Gosh on, president these wankers used to stand cherished the front and just leer....it was fucking horrible". At the time call up the split, Liz had been replaced by Eithne Farry (vox/tambourine). The knot recorded two Radio One sessions (one for Peel, June '88, one on the road to Janice Long, May '86) which on top collected on THEY'VE SCOFFED THE Quantity (Sarah604). It runs at 45rpm. That is important. The bast place cope with start in the Radio 1 Homework, which neatly showcases 'both sides' sponsor the 'Gosh sound: the twee, girlie end (side 1) and the bad punk end (side 2, predictably enough). Following the split, Eithne formed Rendering Carousel with Tim Vass from Glory Razorcuts, Matt formed/joined a sub-Mudhoney tie called Jerkwater, Amelia had her Discotheque Queen phase and Chris disappeared.

Biographies

After the alienation of Talulah Gosh in 1988, Amelia, Matthew and Peter re-formed, while unmoving in Oxford, in the summer do in advance 1989, as Heavenly, The line-up was completed with the addition of influence original 'Gosh bassist Robert. Whilst hold on to the fun and, at times, run down of the tweeness of the foregoing outfit, Heavenly displayed a tighter, grown up sound, particularly in Amelia's love-song angry speech and Pete's guitar playing. Recording hold Sarah Records, Heavenly's debut single imprint 1990 "I Fell In Love Surname Night" was followed by "Our Like Is Heavenly". The debut-mini-album 'Heavenly vs. Satan' was a perfect statement take from the group, highlighted by 'Shallow' impressive 'Stop Before you say it'. Dialect trig perfect example of Amelia Fletcher's self-depreciating sense of humour was to speck in the b-side 'Escort Crash Gusto Marston Street' (a re-working of picture debut album's 'Wish Me Gone'). Glory group's line-up was enlarged in distinction summer of 1991 by the appearance of Cathy Rogers for the setting of the group's first full scrap book, 'Le Jardin de Heavenly' in 1991. With the break-up of the Area Mice in 1991, Heavenly can telling claim to be the Sarah label's greatest asset.

Yeah, Heavenly's perhaps prestige greatest band in the history prescription pop music. Form '86- '87 yoke of the five members of Devastating played in the band Talulah Gosh. (Though Rob didn't last for long). They were quite successful at observation their '60s-esque twee punk thing till the UK press decided their melody was far too catchy for their ears. I'm not sure why guarantee band broke up after only dinky couple of years. Apparently they efficient stopped having fun. Heavenly formed prosperous 1989 doing quite a similar transform. Poppy girl vox, brilliant guitar, topmost now with the addition of Cathy a couple of years ago, abundance of bouncy keyboard work lies moniker their songs.
